The study analyzed the judicial assessment of victims’ testimony and its influence on the reasoning of criminal judgments. A qualitative approach with a documentary, descriptive, and comparative design was applied through an integrative review of 18 scientific articles published between 2021 and 2026 in Dialnet, Scopus, and PubMed. The studies came from Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, Italy, and Sweden. The main criteria identified were comprehensive assessment, credibility, coherence, corroboration, memory conditions, absence of stereotypes, adversarial examination, and respect for the standard of proof. The findings showed that judicial reasoning is sufficient when it explains which facts are established by the testimony, how it relates to the remaining evidence, and why it allows reasonable doubt to be overcome or maintained. In cases involving retraction, pre-recorded testimony, or prior statements, the judgment must compare versions and justify its preference while guaranteeing immediacy, notification, and an effective defense. It is concluded that an individualized, scientific, and prejudice-free assessment strengthens the sufficiency, coherence, and reasonableness of the decision. Conversely, assessments based on emotions, myths, or expert reports used automatically weaken judicial reasoning, increase the risk of arbitrariness, and may result in revictimization or insufficiently justified convictions within the criminal process.
