Agritourism in the sociocultural context as a proposal for the development of the canton of san francisco de milagro, guayas province, ecuador: a theoretical approach

Agritourism in Ecuador has evolved as a key strategy to foster sustainable development in rural areas, not only from an economic perspective but also from a sociocultural one. This article aims to analyze the relationship between agritourism and culture, incorporating empirical and theoretical evidence from recent studies in the San Francisco de Milagro canton and other rural regions of the country. A qualitative methodology was employed, including documentary review and case study analysis focused on successful community-managed agritourism ventures. The findings show that agritourism not only diversifies income sources, but also helps to recover ancestral knowledge, strengthen community ties, empower historically excluded groups (women and youth), and promote a more equitable management of territory. The study concludes that enhancing its impact requires articulation with public policies, technical support, and the consolidation of community tourism networks with an intercultural approach.
