Abstract

Introduction: The digital divide has become a key factor in shaping educational inequalities, particularly in rural contexts where access, use, and appropriation of digital technologies are limited, affecting the quality of the educational process.

Methodology: This study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. Structured surveys were administered to parents or guardians, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers and school administrators in District 09D21 of San Jacinto de Yaguachi, Ecuador.

Results: The findings revealed that 64.6% of participants experience limited internet access, and 60.4% have restricted access to technological devices. Additionally, 59.4% demonstrated a basic level of digital competence, limiting academic support. Correlational analysis showed a significant relationship between access to and use of digital technologies and the quality of the educational process (p < 0.05).

Conclusions: The study concludes that the digital divide is a multidimensional phenomenon that directly impacts educational quality in rural contexts, affecting equity and learning opportunities. Addressing this issue requires comprehensive strategies that integrate technological access, digital skills development, and pedagogical innovation.
