Psychopathy as a way of being: conceptual analysis of the work of Hugo Marietán, detection in leadership selection processes and implications for the Chilean organizational context

This article presents a conceptual analysis of The Psychopathic Boss (El jefe psicópata, 2010) by Dr. HugoR.Marietán, an Argentine psychiatrist who has developed one of the most systematic characterizations of psychopathy in Spanish-speaking contexts. The aim to examine the central constructs of his proposal-psychopathy as a way of being, special needs, objectification, the complementary relationship, and behavioral descriptors- in dialogue with specialized literature, and to intégrate their aplicación in the detection of psychopathic Chilean national organizational mental health as evidence of the urgency of preventive detection. A documentary analysis methodology and theoretical review are employed. Results reveal the internal coherence of Marietán’s framework, its heuristic value for organizational Psychology, and its potential articulación with validated psychopathic instruments. It is concluded that early detection of psychopathic traits in leadership candidates constitutes a high-impact preventive intervention for occupational mental health in Chile.
