Abstract

Introduction: Cooperative learning is an active methodology that promotes interaction, participation, and shared responsibility among students. In Physical Education, its implementation can contribute to strengthening social skills such as cooperation, communication, empathy, respect, coexistence, leadership, and prosocial behavior.

Methodology: A qualitative systematic literature review with a documentary design was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Studies published between 2022 and 2026 were analyzed using Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, PubMed, and SciELO databases, complemented by Google Scholar. After the identification, screening, and eligibility process, 15 scientific studies related to cooperative learning, Physical Education, and social skills were included.

Results: The studies showed a predominantly positive trend regarding cooperative learning. The main strengthened skills were cooperation and teamwork, interpersonal communication, empathy, respect and coexistence, prosocial behavior, leadership, and responsibility. Better outcomes were identified when cooperative activities included common goals, clearly defined responsibilities, and positive interdependence.

Conclusions: Cooperative learning is an appropriate pedagogical strategy for strengthening social skills in Physical Education. Its effectiveness depends on appropriate teacher planning and the structured implementation of cooperative activities.
